Tom and Kay will cover how and why the hydraulic press works, maintenance and safety concerns as well as demonstrating forming metal using dies and pressing metal shapes. How to make silhouette blanking dies and simple deep draw dies and the use of various elastomeric materials, i.e. urethane, and various other tooling will also be discussed and demonstrated. Students will also be introduced to Tufa Casting. Tufa is a soft volcanic stone used for direct casting one-of-a-kind designs. Students may combine both techniques or use them separately. Roy will work closely with each student, so whatever your level of expertise, he will guide you to fine tune your skills as you master new techniques. Students may want to bring templates to aid in drawing their design and may also want to bring a set of inexpensive diamond burs for grinding.
